An indigenous tribe in Davao del Norte will finally experience lights in their homes through a training that will be conducted by a TESDA Region XI.

Around 50 members, mostly women, of the Dibabawon tribe in Barangay Gupitan,  Municipality of Kapalong will be trained in Installing Lighting Systems leading to Electrical Installation Maintenance (EIM) NC II that will be jointly led by TESDA Region XI and the Regional Training Center-KorPhil Davao.

Regional Director Lorenzo Macapili and RTC-KorPhil Davao Center Administrator Constantino Panes led the induction ceremony for the participants on February 21 at Sitio Dugayan in Barangay Gupitan.

TESDA Region XI and RTC-KorPhil Davao have allotted PHP300,000 for the training which will begin in March. The fund will be used to procure the needed electrical and wiring devices for the lights which will be later installed by the beneficiaries in their own houses.

Trainer John Paul Dingal said that the training will not only give light to the homes but will also give possible employment opportunities to the trainees. Dingal also said that some of his previous trainees are now working as assistants to electricians and also earning good income, thanks to the skills they learned from TESDA.

Sitio Dugayan Datu tribal leader Danilo Osod represented the Dibabawon beneficiaries in expressing gratitude to TESDA for bringing the timely and much-needed government program to their tribe.

Barangay Gupitan is an identified priority area this year under the EO 70 or Whole-of-the-Nation-Approach in attaining peace and order in the community.
