The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Region II and Region VI have kicked off their construction-related trainings in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental which was devastated by Typhoon Odette last December 2021.

A total of 50 residents of Brgy. Gil Montilla have started their training, of which, 25 are currently being trained on Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II while the other 25 are undergoing training on Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) NC II.

It can be recalled that TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapeña, through the “TESDAmayan” initiatives, has ordered the provision of construction-related skills training to the residents of areas affected by Typhoon Odette.

TESDA has allotted PhP195 million worth of scholarship for the residents of the affected regions nationwide.

According to TESDA Region II, the training is being implemented under the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) program of the Regional Training Center-Talisay.

Edwin Madarang, Vocational School Superintendent of the School of Arts and Trades (ISAT) and the team leader of the augmentation team from Region II, said that the scholar beneficiaries have already undergone Training Induction Program (TIP) conducted by the trainers last February 10.

He added that the scholars will be tapped to help rebuild homes in the city as part of the training cum production on the said qualifications.

Meanwhile, TESDA Cordillera Administrative Region’s (CAR) 19-man team have repaired and rebuild 19 structures in four towns in Bohol.

On January 30, TESDA Bohol Provincial Director Winifredo Salas had organized a TESDAmayan exit program as a way of thanking TESDA CAR augmentation team and other partners who tirelessly helped in rebuilding a new home and sacrificed their time with their families to aid the typhoon-hit families in Bohol.

The TESDA CAR team expressed their gratitude for the valuable opportunity to assist their kababayan during these tough times.

“Team Cordillera that were dispatched to Bohol really gave enlightenment to the areas where they were assigned, marami tayong natulungan at hindi nila maisalarawan ang kanilang kasiyahan sa tulong ng programang TESDAmayan,” Artemio Jose, one of the team leaders, said.

Further, repairs and rehabilitation of houses damaged by Typhoon Odette, and provision of skills training and relief packs are still ongoing nationwide. ###
