As part of its TESDAmayan Civil Works projects for the victims of typhoon Odette, the TESDA Caraga continues its relief and assistance efforts by helping rebuild the typhoon-damaged houses in affected areas.

The TESDA-Agusan del Norte Cluster headed by Provincial Director Rey Cueva and the Technical Vocational Education and Training Association of Surigao del Sur, Inc. (TVETASS, Inc.) led by president Gaspar Rodriguez sent its trainees to help rebuild the damaged houses to two employees of the Northern Mindanao School of Fisheries (NMSF). The Odette-damaged houses of NMSF employees Mary Joy Labastida and Femellin Philia Samson were repaired by TESDA-trained Raul Mondragon and Adonis Mateo with the assistance of the victims’ respective families. The repair of Labastida’s house—located in Barangay Triangulo, Nasipit, Agusan del Norte—started on January 26 and was completed on January 28. Samson’s house—located at Km. 11, Purok 6, Alubihid, Buenavista—was repaired from January 31 to February 3. NMSF Officer-in-Charge Nancy De Guzman also monitored the house rebuilding.

The project included the repair or replacement of rafters, purlins, and roofing.

The TESDAmayan intervention was also carried out in Surigao del Norte where 10 houses were successfully rehabilitated from January 5 to January 14.

The project includes replacement of damaged roofing and damaged walling; installation of trusses and purlins; check-up of electrical wirings, main breaker and fuse; and installation of lighting fixtures and convenience outlets.

The 18 TESDA-trained workers for the house repair are graduates of the Community Based Training in Basic Carpentry (Fabricate and Install Roofing System) and Basic Electrical Wiring and Lighting System. Twelve of these workers are from Barangay Magpayang and six workers are from the TESDA augmentation workforce from San Agustin, Agusan del Sur. The victims’ family members also assisted in the house reconstruction.

This TESDAmayan efforts are in line with Secretary Isidro Lapeña’s thrust on “TESDA, Abot Lahat” as well as the “Caraga Cares” initiative of Regional Director Tarhata Mapandi which aim to assist communities affected by natural calamities, disasters or other untoward incidents that caused displacement among residents.
