TESDA Region X recently spearheaded several graduation ceremonies in its provinces for the beneficiaries under the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) and the Special Training Employment Program (STEP).
On January 29, twenty-five beneficiaries—thirteen of them are women—from Barangay Bakid-Bakid, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental received their National Certificates for Levels 1 and 2 on Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). They also received their training funds and SMAW toolkits to support their transition to employment. The initiative is under PRLEC’s Barangay Development Program of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The Regional Training Center- Tagoloan, headed by Center Chief Mario Labisig, successfully conducted the training and confirmed the graduates. In attendance during the graduation ceremony were TESDA Misamis Oriental Provincial Director Marigold Cherie Garrido, Gingoog City Mayor Erick Cañosa and City Councilor Evelyn Cañosa. Also present during the graduation rites were representatives from the 58th Infantry Battalion, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The PNP, DTI and the regional military also committed to provide post-training assistance to the graduates who are composed of indigenous peoples and relatives of former rebels.
The graduates expressed their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to TESDA in helping them complete their courses and consider this as an achievement.
Twenty four STEP scholars also completed their National Assessment in Cookery NC II training which was conducted at the Cookery NC II Workstation of the Camiguin School of Arts and Trades (CSAT) from January 28-30.
Trainer Josephine Caguit, TESDA representative Erlinda Lopina and TESDA Competency Assessor Edna Trinidad made the assessment of the trainees. The assessment seeks to determine whether the trainees can perform the expected workplace regulations based on the competency standards.
The STEP is a community-based training program that seeks to address the specific needs of the communities and promote employment, particularly through entrepreneurial, self-employment and service-oriented activities. STEP scholars will also receive their allowances and starter toolkits related to their respective courses.
