The TESDA Provincial Training Center in Davao del Norte recently held a webinar on mental health to faculty and students at Assumption College of Nabunturan.

It was the request of the college to PTC administrator Junna Arnaez to conduct the webinar that was held via Google Meet and Facebook Live on September 22 that was led by Senior TESD Major Salipot, RN, MPsy. With the theme: “Psycho-Social Activity: Suicide Prevention/Awareness Month-- Creating Hope Through Action, Connect to Protect,” the online conference discussed the following topics:
Republic Act 11036 Philippine Mental Health Law Briefer
Stress: Definition, Signs and Management
Suicide: Signs, What to Do and What Not To Do

The webinar was attended by 336 participants that were composed of 14 employees, 32 college students, 238 senior high school students and 52 junior high school students.
According to TESDA PTC Davao del Norte, the online conference sought to educate the participants on the importance of mental health, stress and suicide awareness especially to students who are among the most stressed as they continue to adjust to online learning as well as the uncertainty brought by lockdowns.

Based on the World Health Organization, the mental stress brought by the pandemic is “long-term and “far-reaching” thus, discussions on mental health is very beneficial in preventing suicide-related incidents and promote the overall well-being of the students as well as the school faculty.
