The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is holding a Dual Training Partnership Forum in the Visayas and Mindanao regions to boost the partnership between schools and companies in implementing technical vocational education and training (TVET).
Dual Training System (DTS) is an instructional mode of delivery for technology-based education and training in which learning takes place alternately in two venues: the school or training center and the company.
"TESDA believes that in providing hands-on training to students and in taking into consideration the specific skills requirements of industries, which are being espoused by the DTS, the country will produce graduates with skills that companies need," TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva said.
The forum was held last month in Cagayan de Oro for the Mindanao regions. The Visayas forum will be scheduled in October in time for the DTS Week celebration.
Tech-voc institutions, companies, industry associations, local chambers of commerce and industry and members of the working committees of TESDA, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) are expected to participate.
Villanueva said the forum will provide a venue for sharing best practices of institutions and companies in implementing DTS and foster active involvement of tech-voc institutions and companies and to attract new players in the program.
The forum, he said, will also be an opportunity to sustain the active participation and commitment in the continuous promotion, implementation and adoption of dual training by various stakeholders.
The gathering will be a showcase of DTS implementation in the Philippines and in Germany.
Germany's "dual" education system, which has a combination of numerous practical apprenticeships with classroom lectures, is widely admired in Europe and seen as a vital factor in Germany's economic success.
The forum will also discuss the DTS accreditation procedures.
Helping TESDA organize it are PCCI, GPCCI, the K to 12 PLUS Project, associations of tech-voc institutions and local chambers of commerce and industry.
In February this year, the same forum was held at the TESDA Women's Center and was participated in by 200 representatives from schools, industries and industry associations in Regions III, IV-A and the National Capital Region.
