TECHNICAL Education Skills Development Authority director general Joel Villanueva said Thursday that closure proceedings are now ongoing against two schools in Metro Manila offering technical-vocational courses for operating without license and accreditation.
Villanueva declined to identify the schools so as not to unduly alarm the students and their parents. He said the schools failed to comply with the agency’s Unified TVET Program and Accreditation System standards or requirements.
He said the administrators of the schools have been informed but have failed to implement any remedies and TESDA hopes to close them down before the end of the year. The schools offer Deck Seafaring NC II and Security Services NC1 and NC11 courses.
Villanueva said they are looking at filing administrative and criminal charges against the schools’ officials. He said the schools’ students can have their fees refunded and also sue their officials. – Ashzel Hachero
