LEYTE Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Aurora Rep. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara yesterday urged the House of Representatives to give additional funding to the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority.
They said the government should look on the brighter side of having more competitive TESDA programs under Director-General Joel Villanueva for the country to have globally-competitive graduates.
“We have to help our former colleague (ex-congressman Joel Villanueva) in making TESDA graduates more employable by providing adequate funds that would ensure competitive and better training for the technical-vocational graduates and for the purchase of much-needed equipment and modern training tools,” said Romualdez.
Malacañang allocated P2.85 billion for TESDA, P700 million of which is earmarked for the scholarship of 65,000 students. This is far below this year’s P5.6 billion funding.
Angara, chairman of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education, said his panel will do everything to uplift the status of technical and vocational courses and college courses.
“My panel is committed to supporting the thrust and programs of the new TESDA leadership… we have to push for the granting of more funds,” said Angara.
