Tech-voc graduates are skilled, job-ready--TESDA

Hundreds of graduates of various technical-vocational courses in Muntinlupa City were feted in a ceremony that put focus on their future career.
 
Secretary Joel Villanueva, Director General of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), came to the Mass Graduation for the city's tech-voc graduates and exhorted them to be role models for other youth to follow.
 
"We have fresh graduates with skills that they will be able to put to use in the workplace right away," he said at the ceremony held on Thursday, July 3, at the Muntinlupa Sports Center in Tunasan, Muntinlupa City.
 
"The acquired skills from tech-voc education and training will not only pave the way for better lives for the graduates and their families, but for nation-building," Villanueva added.
 
A total of 463 individuals graduated from the Community/Center-Based Training, while 227 finished their respective livelihood training courses.
 
A total of 218 individuals were endorsed for on-the-job training program, and 312 were endorsed for employment.
 
TESDA, in coordination with the local government, also conducted Outreach Community Service Program. A total of 853 residents of the city availed of the free massage, and 1,339 got free haircut.
 
"I hope the graduates of Muntinlupa City will serve as the bearers of the good news about technical vocational education and training," Villanueva said.
 
"The graduates will leave this place armed with skills and self-confidence that they can tread the path of opportunities," he added.
 
As the country's sole agency tasked to carry out the mandate of providing quality and relevant technical vocational education and training, TESDA works closely with the local government and the private sector to bolster the delivery of tech-voc training all over the country.
 
Muntinlupa City, along with other local governments in Metro Manila, are operating their own training centers that offer free tech-voc training to their constituents.
 
"We are very happy with the initiative of Muntinlupa City in allocating funds for the skills development of the residents. It is definitely a wise investment in human capital development that would provide better opportunities, particularly for the youth and the unemployed." Villanueva said.
