The Philippine National Skills Competition (PNSC) came to a close on April 11 with the new batch of technical vocational graduates and trainees emerging as winners and earning the right to represent the country at the ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC).
The next ASC will be held in Vietnam this October.
"Congratulations to the winners and make your country proud," Secretary Joel Villanueva, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director General, said as he delivered a message at the closing ceremony.
Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro, who was the keynote speaker, hailed the competitors and urged them to continue striving for excellence in their workplaces and prepare well for the next level of competition.
Villanueva and Luistro, assisted by TESDA officials, gave to the outstanding competitors the Diploma of Excellence Award, Best of Region Award, Medalist per Trade Area, and the region recognized as overall champion.
A total of 128 competitors joined the skills contest. They earlier hurdled the competition at the regional level.
Villanueva said that this year's Philippine delegation to the ASC will go through rigid training to keep them in top shape when they face the international skills contest.
"Our delegates will undergo a higher level of training. Our sights are trained at no less than the gold," he said.
The TESDA chief said they will tap companies, industry associations and technical vocational institutions to help further hone the skills of the Philippine team.
"Our competitors need more exposure in the shop floor using the state of the art equipment and tools. This is where we need the support of our partners from the private sector," Villanueva reiterated.
Working closely with various stakeholders, the Philippines aims to bring home more medals and honor to the country.
