THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) urged technical-vocational schools in the country to “shape up” or face closure.
Tesda Director General Joel Villanueva issued the warning following reports of “below standard” Tesda schools in the countryside.
“We will exercise the power to shut down bogus schools, as well as tech-voc schools offering TESDA accredited programs but not following standards,” Villanueva said.
The Tesda chief said there are institutions that have training modules but do not measure up the standard, producing graduates that are not competitive to secure employment.
He however declined to identify the schools, pending the completion of their analysis and assessment.
The move came after reports showed a low absorption rate on the agency’s scholars despite the billions of pesos invested by the government on the project. (AH/Sunnex)
