Hundreds of technical vocational graduates braved the crowd and tried their luck in finding employment from dozens of companies that participated in the job fair organized by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Department of Labor and Employment in Bacoor City in Cavite.

Some 60 companies came to the fair looking for skilled workers for various job posts from among the graduates from CaLaBaRZon  (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), the country's prime industrial area in the southern Tagalog region.

"We want to be in step with the demand of companies for skilled workers.  This job bridging activity will open up the door of opportunity to both the tech-voc graduates and businesses to meet and match their needs," Secretary Joel Villanueva, TESDA director general, said.

Villanueva said some companies are changing course, needing to operate now with a bigger workforce as economy sustains decent growth this year.

"TESDA will continue training people to equip them with in-demand skills, and will help them connect with employers through job fairs," he said.

Simultaneous with the job fair, a total of 665 graduates from 14 municipalities of Cavite were also recognized for finishing their respective tech-voc courses under the Cash for Training Program, a joint undertaking of TESDA and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).  The training programs were conducted from March to August 2013.
 
During the event, the graduates were handed their training certificates. Those who opted to start their own livelihood were also given tool kits.

C4TP, a nationwide project of TESDA and DSWD that started in December last year, aims to train close to 66,000 youth to put them into gainful employment or assist them start a business later on.

TESDA and its partner tech-voc institutions and non-government organizations conducted the training for the youth. In addition to skills training, the youth who opted for self-employment were given additional training in entrepreneurship.

Villanueva was joined by local officials at the job fair and the graduation ceremony. TESDA-Cavite officials were also present.

The event was held at the Event Center of SM City in Bacoor City.
