The perimeter fence that bounds the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) complex in Taguig City recently got a makeover through its training-cum-production scheme.
At the same time, TESDA announced the procurement of 20 new vehicles to add to its fleet, which would soon ply the provinces for use of the agency's regional and provincial offices.
"More than the aesthetic value, the repair of our perimeter fence will guarantee its structural integrity and secure the safety of the people working inside the complex," Villanueva said.
In the past, he said there were reported cases of indiscriminate firing and wayward golf balls from the adjacent golf course shooting into the complex, posing perils to the employees and to properties.
The rehabilitation project was delivered by several TESDA trainees under a training-cum-production scheme, which not only minimized the cost, but maximized the promotion and development of technical vocational education and training (TVET) program, he said.
For this project, Villanueva said TESDA worked with the Association of Construction and Industry Workers (ACIW), who assisted in the project completion.
As for the new vehicles, TESDA bought 20 brand new units of Toyota Innova through a bidding process. The new cars were turned over to the agency's offices in the provinces to be used as their service vehicles.
"With added mobility, we hope our provincial offices would be able to reach more beneficiaries, especially those in the far-flung barangays," Villanueva said.
The TESDA chief said his goal was to provide all of the agency's offices all over the country with at least one vehicle for better delivery of service.
Meanwhile, TESDA was able to save at least P5 million for the expansion of its water services after a private concessionaire agreed to shoulder the cost of the project.
Last July 11, TESDA and the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System inked an agreement on the latter's planned sewer network alignment. Included in the agreement was for private concessionaire Manila Water Inc. to accommodate TESDA's request for water service expansion to cover identified areas within its premises
In consideration of the right to use a portion of the TESDA property, Manila Water agreed to shoulder all related expenses, which include construction and installation of a main distribution system inside the TESDA property, putting asphalt pavement on roads, and waiving of concession fee when the agency applies for water service connection.
