The Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) of Saudi Arabia has chosen the Philippines anew to help enhance the country's capability on technical vocational education and training (TVET).

The training for 40 TVTC technical staff and supervisors began on February 25.

The two-week training will be on strategic planning for administration and management of TVTC training programs and will be conducted in two batches.This will center on the principles and values of strategic management and leadership, the process of formulating objectives, identifying strategies, developing action plans, designing an effective organization, and measuring results.

Lectures, group activity, case analysis and experiments will be among the methodologies that will be used to carry out the training.

Aside from the training in strategic planning, TESDA will also manage the conduct of the training for 45 trainers in the following courses: Consumer Electronics (15); Computer Networks (10); Diagnosing Computer Failure (10); and, Refrigeration and Airconditioning (10).

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) signed a contract with the TVTC for the provision of the training program to the Saudi personnel.

"The strategic partnership is designed to help TVTC enhance its capability in delivering quality and relevant training aligned with the needs of young Saudi nationals and the country's economy," said Secretary Joel Villanueva, TESDA director general, following the signing of the contract with Abdulaziz S. Al Amr, assistant vice governor for assets and funds and director general for international cooperation of the TVTC.

TVTC will shoulder the expenses of the program totalling to P26.8 million (US$660,216) while TESDA will facilitate the conduct of the program and will tap the expertise of some of its established and recognized partners in TVET.

"TESDA promises to give the TVTC trainees the best and most up-to-date, relevant learning experience to help them produce quality graduates ready to plunge in the workplace," Villanueva said.

The partnerhsip between TESDA and TVTC for the training of the Saudi nationals began in 2006.  Until last year, a total of 388 trainers and supervisors have finished training in TESDA.
