The province of  Laguna is the next stop for the mobile classroom of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) currently going around the country to bring technical vocational education and training (TVET) to rural communities.

Secretary Joel Villanueva, TESDA Director General, handed the key of the training bus to local officials signalling the temporary turn-over of the facility that was turned into a state-of-the-art classroom equipped with multi-media equipment, computers, training chairs and other materials.

"With the Mobile Training Program, we can get them closer to our intended beneficiaries," Villanueva told the receiving local government officials.

The bus, a donation from Genesis Transport Inc., will hold training for beneficiaries from Barangay Langkiwa, Binan, Laguna.

"As our mobile classroom is parked in your area, we encourage the youth to hop in and learn something new, which could be life-changing," Villanueva said.

"Now, you need not leave your barangay to attend a training program. You already have access to the courses we offer," he said.

The Mobile Training Program (MTP) is another learning modality implemented by TESDA, where teaching of a technical vocational course happens inside a bus that goes to communities. TESDA coordinates with local government units, government agencies and non-government organizations in its implementation.

The MTP bus has all the necessary equipment, tools, consumables, and carries with it qualified trainer of the program being conducted.

For its Laguna roll out, TESDA will offer courses such as Computer Hardware Servicing, Motorcycle/ Small Engine Servicing, Hilot (Wellness), Emergency Disaster Preparedness and Security Services, Meat Processing, Soap Making, Mechatronics and Dressmaking.

Graduates of these programs will undergo the mandatory assessment and will be assisted in either finding jobs or becoming self-employed under the TESDA Specialista Technopreneurship Program.

Binan City in Laguna is a location for some of the country's largest industrial estates and export processing zones.
