Skills specialists who will represent the Philippines in the ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC) were given an official send-off to the contest on Friday.

Secretary Joel Villanueva, TESDA Director General, families and friends of the delegates, and other officials of the agency gathered  at the TESDA Women’s Center in Taguig City to show their support for the 16 competitors and their respective coaches.

“Give it your best, and make your families and country proud,” Villanueva told the delegates during the send-off ceremony.

The ASC, slated from November 11 to 20, will gather the top skilled men and  women from 10 countries for the contest that will showcase the region’s best in various skills challenge.

“The Philippines is making a comeback in the skills competition after several years in hiatus, and we want to do it with a bang,” Villanueva said.

The delegates will vie in various skills challenge, such as information network administrator, electronics, web design, hairdressing, caring, fashion technology, mechatronics, refrigeration and air-conditioning, industrial automation, and beauty therapy.

Last month, the delegates went through hands-on intensive training to   further hone their competencies in private establishments run by TESDA’s  partner institutions, such as hospitals, beauty salons and computer  schools.

Villanueva said the hands-on training kept the delegates pumped up for  the competition, and gave them a feel of what to expect in the actual contest.
