Trust the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and its partner institutions to take care of the youth's training. For the real work experience, TESDA taps the best companies and businesses, with the help of its accredited trainers.
In the Calabarzon area (Region IV-A), one of the country's industrial sites, TESDA recently awarded the PhimCo Industries Inc. as the 2013 Best DTS Partner (company category) at the 2nd Calabarzon Regional DTS (Dual Training System) Congress.
The leading manufacturer of high quality safety matches and mosquito coils in the country, PhimCo is a long-time partner of TESDA in helping provide in-plant training to technical vocational students in the region.
"We are grateful to PhimCo and our other partner companies and businesses for opening up their workshops for the training of our students within their facilities," TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva said.
Villanueva said these companies strengthen the Dual Training System (DTS), a TESDA program aimed to help close the gap between workers' skills and the needs of businesses.
Institutionalized through the enactment of Republic Act (RA) 7686 in 1994, the DTS is an instructional delivery system of technical and vocational education and training that combines in-plant and in-school training, based on a training plan designed and implemented by accredited schools and their partner business establishments.
"DTS has proven to be our best bet in keeping ahead in the skills race, and have put thousands of tech-voc graduates on sustainable careers," Villanueva said.
Selected from hundreds of companies offering in-company training, PhimCo was recognized for the quality of its ongoing DTS program, the number of tech-voc students it has absorbed for employment and the number of beneficiaries it had in the past three years.
During the awarding ceremony held in Cavite, TESDA also recognized Ronald Lopez of Honda Phils. Inc. as 2013 Outstanding Training Coordinator and Rommel Guinto of Dualtech Training Center Foundation as 2013 Outstanding Industrial Coordinator.
Also honoring the trainers, who are at the frontline of giving tech-voc services, TESDA awarded the 2013 Outstanding Trainer award to Orlando De Villa of the ISHRM School System of Cavite (private category) and the Joven Robinson Santos of the Quezon National Agricultural School (public category).
De Villa, who works as the Dean of College at the school has been conducting training on food and beverage services and related skills for workers in the country and abroad. He has also served as coach for the provincial and regional skills competition. He is also currently a member of the TESDA regional auditing team. He is writing his thesis for his Masters in Business Administration.
Santos is a holder of various national certificates on agricultural technology, horticulture and related skills. He currently works as Instructor I of QNAS.
Other finalists in the 2013 Outstanding Trainers are Jovert Cabarces of RTC-Batangas; Shirley de Jesus of DLSU-Lipa; Mely Pena of QNAS-Quezon; Domingo Guarte of CSTC-Sariaya; Yolanda Manlapas of PTC-Paliparan, Cavite; Julius Abancio of PTC-Binangonan, Rizal; and, Sonia Victoria Gongora of 5EA Training and Development Center.
