As part of the celebration of National Teachers’ Month, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has begun the last stages of its search and selection for the best technical vocational trainers in the country.
Now in its 10th year, the 2024 Tagsanay Award is held with the theme “Pagpupugay sa Isang Dekadang Selebrasyon para sa mga Tagapagsanay na may Lingap at Maaasahang Tagumpay.”
According to TESDA Director General, Secretary Jose Francisco “Kiko” B. Benitez, the agency is now assessing the applications of 17 technical vocational education and training (TVET) trainers vying for the 2024 Tagsanay Award.
The competition will consist of two main segments: the semi-final round and the final round. The semi-final round will test participants with a computer-based assessment, experience sharing, data analysis, and a showcase of innovation and creativity.
From this, eight finalists will emerge to compete in the final round, which will include a panel interview and an enhancement of their training packages.
The Tagsanay Award, one of TESDA’s Institutional Awards, aims to recognize the nation’s exemplary trainers in the TVET sector, who have demonstrated innovation, excellence, and dedication in shaping the country's workforce.
In a statement, Secretary Benitez emphasized the importance of honoring trainers who not only impart critical skills but also play a crucial role in ensuring that the Filipino workforce remains competitive globally.
“Our tech-voc trainers are the backbone of our TVET system. They are instrumental in empowering the youth and professionals with industry-relevant and globally recognized skills," the TESDA chief said.
The National Tagsanay Award Overall Winner is expected to be named on October 8.
The National Tagsanay Award Champion will bring home a cash prize of Php 25,000; the 1st Runner-up, Php 20,000; the 2nd Runner-up, Php 15,000; and the Top Eight Trainers will receive Php 5,000.
