In a bid to boost training programs in the automotive sector, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), in partnership with Honda Foundation, Inc. opened on July 29 a training facility to produce skilled workers in the said sector.
TESDA-National Capital Region (NCR) Regional Director Jovencio Ferrer, Jr., representing Secretary Suharto T. Mangudadatu and Honda Foundation, Inc. President Seiji Fujimoto led the inauguration of the TESDA RTC-NCR Honda Room inside the TESDA Complex in Taguig City.
TESDA, through its Regional Training Center – National Capital Region (RTC-NCR), and Honda Foundation, Inc. aims to bridge the skills gap in the automotive industry by providing advanced training and hands-on experience to aspiring automotive technicians.
It can be recalled that RTC-NCR and Honda Foundation, Inc. signed a Memorandum of Agreement last March 20, 2024 for the establishment of the training center.
The facility will serve as a TESDA training and assessment center venue, facilitating the certification process for learners of motorcycle and automotive courses.
The center aims to equip trainers and trainees with essential knowledge and expertise in automotive technology by integrating Honda's advanced technology and providing access to high-quality education aligned with global standards in the automotive sector.
The TESDA RTC-NCR Honda Room will offer courses in motorcycle and automotive maintenance and repair services to the motoring public. Honda will then assist in terms of hiring and employing graduates for regular posting in the Honda companies and/or Honda dealers.
In a statement, TESDA Director General, Secretary Suharto T. Mangudadatu shared that the training facility represents a significant milestone in the agency’s commitment to excellence in education and workforce development.
“TESDA is committed to providing quality-assured and inclusive technical education and skills development programs, aiming to transform the technical education and skills development of the Filipino workforce by offering world-class training for higher-level qualifications in motorcycle and automotive servicing,” the Secretary said.
Also present during the inauguration ceremony were Executive Director Floramel Joy Songsong, RTC-NCR Administrator Gilbert Castro, Honda Foundation, Inc. Vice President Rie Miyaki, and other TESDA and Honda Foundation, Inc. officials.
