The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has recognized outstanding technical vocational education and training (TVET) Institutions and Assessment Centers in the country.
In his message, TESDA Secretary/Director General Suharto T. Mangudadatu emphasized the need to better adapt and adopt to changes to ensure that technical vocational institutions are not only resilient but also remain dynamic in meeting the evolving needs of learners and industries.
“To be relevant and resilient, our TVET institutions have to move to higher level qualifications,” the Secretary said.
“In our pursuit to foster this culture of excellence, we will recognize through our quality assurance mechanisms, TVET Institutions and Assessment Centers that have exceeded the minimum requirements set by TESDA,” added Secretary Mangudadatu.
The System for TVET Accreditation and Recognition (STAR) Awards Program recognizes training programs that have exceeded the minimum registration requirements set by TESDA. For 2023, out of the 82 TVET Institution-applicants, only 16 were conferred with the STAR Program.
Receiving the two-star level of the awards for their training programs were Isabela School of Arts and Trades (Bread and Pastry NC II); Jacobo Z. Gonzales Memorial School of Arts and Trades (Bread and Pastry Production NC II); and, Regional Training Center – CALABARZON (Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II, Driving NC II).
The one-star awardees included Jacobo Z. Gonzales Memorial School of Arts and Trades (Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II); Regional Training Center – CALABARZON (Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC III, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II, and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) NC II); TESDA - Cordillera State Institute of Technical Education - Main Campus (CNC Milling Machine Operation NC II and Machining NC II); Regional Training Center – Tuguegarao (Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II and Electronic Products Assembly and Servicing NC II); and, Rizal Provincial Technical Education and Skills Development Center – Cainta (RAC Servicing (DomRAC) NC II).
Other one-star awardees were Lasam Institute of Technology (Bread and Pastry Production NC II, SMAW NC II, Food and Beverage Services NC II, Agricultural Crops Production NC II, and Cookery NC II), Quezon National Agricultural School (Organic Agriculture Production NC II and Agricultural Crops Production NC II); Torrijos Poblacion School of Arts and Trades (Organic Agriculture Production NC II); Puerto Princesa School of Arts and Trades (Housekeeping NC II); Simeon Suan Vocational and Technical College (Dressmaking NC II); Provincial Training Center – Pilar (Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II); Balicuatro College of Arts and Trades (Bread and Pastry Production NC II); Regional Training Center – Tacloban (Automotive Servicing NC III); and, Davao Oriental Polytechnic Institute Organic Agriculture Production NC II).
Meanwhile, the TESDA Seal of Integrity is awarded to accredited assessment centers that have consistently adhered to TESDA operating procedures and quality management principles in the conduct of national assessments.
The TESDA Seal of Integrity was awarded to the United Marine Training Center, Inc., making it the only assessment center out of the 60 applicants to receive the accolade.
The said awards were given during 6th National Quality TVET Forum at the Midas Hotel in Pasay City last November 14 with the theme “Driving TVET Innovations for Social Inclusivity and Sustainable Futures.”
The forum serves as a venue for exchanging information and best practices, as well as the experiences of our neighboring countries in achieving high quality, relevant, effective and accessible TVET programs.
