The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) expressed its support to the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development’s (DHSUD) “Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino” Program.

Director General Danilo P. Cruz said that the Construction Sector is among the top priority sectors of TESDA when it comes to the budget allocation for scholarships, adding that it has a lot of courses under the said sector.

“TESDA is one with the Housing Department and other government agencies in developing and enhancing the skills of workers in the housing industry,” DG Cruz said.

Last October 11, DHSUD Undersecretary Henry Yap paid a courtesy call to DG Cruz to discuss avenues of partnership to augment the housing and construction industries’ present workforce as well as improve their skillset.

The DHSUD earlier said that they are anticipating a sudden increase in demand for construction workers as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s. “Pambansang Pabahay” is expected to go full blast in the coming months.

The “Pambansang Pabahay” project was launched on December 21 in Nueva Ecija and was led by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. and Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar. The said project is the administration’s flagship mass housing program.

Meanwhile, according to data, TESDA produced a total of 60,223 graduates in the Construction Sector in 2022. Likewise, a total of 76,134 workers were certified as skilled workers in their respective courses.

Aside from the regular training courses, TESDA has also integrated Plumbing NC II and Photovoltaic Systems Installation NC II in the TESDA Online Program (TOP). The TOP is a web-based platform that provides an effective and efficient way to deliver TVET at the learner’s place and time.

In the TOP, the Plumbing NC II course had 8,668 completers while Photovoltaic Systems Installation NCII had 4,741 completers in 2022.

TESDA has also been collaborating with stakeholders in the construction sector. One of them is the Philippine Constructors Association (PCA) which is the recognized National Industry Board for the Construction Sector.

TESDA and PCA met last August 4 to discuss the latter’s ongoing programs and projects. Both parties are eyeing to produce 4.4 million highly skilled workers in the construction sector for the next eight years.

“We commit to continue providing construction-related programs and partner with the industries to ensure that TESDA construction-related courses are at par with international standards.” DG Cruz said.
