The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has trained a total of 28,982 repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their dependents in 2022.
TESDA Director General Danilo P. Cruz renewed his strong commitment to continue its efforts of upskilling and reskilling OFWs and their families adding that they have always been among TESDA’s priority clients when it comes to the provision of skills training and livelihood programs.
“Yung mga bumabalik na nawalan ng trabaho ay binibigyan natin ng training program para makapaghanda sa bagong skills na papasukin nila o babalik sila sa kanilang foreign employment at kung mag-decide sila na dito na magtrabaho,” the TESDA chief said in a recent media interview.
Meanwhile, OFWs and their dependents have also been registering for the TESDA Online Program (TOP). In 2022, a total of 84,509 OFWs and their dependents registered in the TOP.
Among the top courses in the TOP in which OFWs and their families have enrolled in are Practicing COVID-19 Preventive Measures in the Workplace, Introduction to Caregiving, and Providing Housekeeping Services.
TESDA has also been assisting displaced OFWs under its OFW Reintegration for Skills Employment (RISE) Program which is being implemented with the help of the Overseas Workers' Welfare Administration (OWWA), Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC), and Coca-Cola Philippines.
The OFW-RISE Program offers returning OFWs an online course that can be accessed through the TOP. This enables them to transform their business ideas into business plans.
This 2023, DG Cruz vowed to continue improving TESDA’s programs to produce highly-skilled and globally-competitive workers who can adapt to the ever-changing demand of the industry.
“We, in TESDA, have always strived to be more responsive to the needs of our kababayans. We make our services more accessible for the country’s workforce to be suitably equipped for new jobs or livelihood ventures.” the TESDA chief said.
