TESDA commits to boosting Ph workforce to address challenges

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has vowed to continue and improve its efforts to further strengthen the country’s workforce to boost economic recovery.

TESDA Director General Danilo P. Cruz shared that TESDA is currently developing the National Technical Education and Skills Development Plan (NTESDP) 2023-2028, which is the TVET sector’s roadmap for the next five years.

“In support of the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028, the NTESD 2023-2028 shall focus on digitalization in response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and as we continue to pursue an area-based and demand-driven TVET,” DG Cruz said.

Earlier, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, lauded the Agency for its crucial role in empowering the Filipino workforce and helping the graduates achieve their educational and career goals.

For his part, DG Cruz thanked Sen. Go for being one of TESDA’s reliable partners in promoting and improving the TVET sector of the country.

Sen. Go was the recipient of TESDA’s 2021 Special National Kabalikat Award for his “Bisyo ang Magserbisyo” advocacy, specifically his support for the advancement of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, TESDA spokesperson Deputy Director General Aniceto D. Bertiz III, said that TESDA will continue to strengthen the delivery of training programs, particularly enterprise-based training (EBT).

The TESDA official also emphasized the importance of the whole-of-nation approach in addressing skills-job mismatch saying that the industries play a crucial role in upskilling and reskilling the Filipino workforce.

“We commit to continue to provide support to those who have lost their jobs during the pandemic. Rest assured that TESDA will be here to ensure that the country’s workforce is responsive to different challenges, especially the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” he said.

For 2023, TESDA is eyeing the integration of its Registry of Certified Workers, the Registry of Skills Priorities, and the PhilJobNet of DOLE.  This is envisioned to become a centralized database for job-seekers to access the current skills priorities of employers for a seamless job-matching process.

TESDA shall also collaborate more with the industries in priority sectors such as Agriculture, Tourism, Manufacturing, Transportation & Logistics, Health, IT-BPM, Creative Industries, Energy, and Construction.
