Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director General Danilo P. Cruz lauds the Philippine delegation for the upcoming WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition this October to November.
“These competitions present precious opportunities to unite all these young and talented individuals to showcase their skills and share their expertise,” DG Cruz said in his speech during the send-off ceremony of the Philippine delegation last Sept. 28.
“Continue working hard, strive to always do your best, and commit to excellence and not mediocrity. Most of all, continue learning and your future is assured,” the TESDA Chief added.
A total of 15 competitors and 15 experts from different skill areas will participate in the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition. The competition is the official replacement for WorldSkills Shanghai 2022 which was canceled in May due to the pandemic.
The Philippines is set to participate in the Special Edition’s 15 separate skill competitions. These are 3D Digital Game Art, Bakery, Beauty Therapy, Cooking, Electrical Installations, Graphic Design Technology, Hairdressing, IT Software Solutions for Business, Mechanical Engineering CAD, Optoelectronic Technology, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Restaurant Service, Hotel Reception, Automobile Technology, and Information Network Cabling.
These skills competitions will be held in France, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, South Korea, Japan, and Austria. The first team will leave for Switzerland on Oct. 1 to compete in Hotel Reception.
Meanwhile, competitors expressed their gratitude to TESDA for the opportunity to represent the country in international competition and emphasized that tech-voc training has helped them a lot in life.
“Just go for it. Wala namang mawawala. It’s a matter of you exploring different things, different areas, and that’s what I learned throughout my 22 years of existence because I didn’t confine myself [to] a box,” Jules Allen Bautista, the competitor in Hotel Reception said, urging Filipinos to take up tech-voc.
“Let’s break the stigma. TESDA is one of the recognized institutions here in the country. It’s time that we recognize it as it is. You must look up to TESDA because [they are] giving Filipinos opportunities for jobs to apply [to].” Kurt Daniel Mercado, another Restaurant Service competitor, said.
The Philippines, through TESDA, has been participating to various international skills competitions. In the 44th WorldSkills Competition in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in 2017, the country participated in two skill areas and bagged two Medallion for Excellence.
During the 45th WorldSkills Competition in Kazan, Russia in 2019, two Filipino delegates were awarded with Medallions for Excellence. Medallion for Excellence is granted to competitors whose performance meet the international standards based on the criteria set by the WorldSkills International. (30)
