Seoul, South Korea - With overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as one of its priority sectors, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is encouraging them to enroll in its free online training and livelihood courses.

During his visit here to attend the K-Skills Competition last Aug. 28, Deputy Director General Aniceto Bertiz III met with the Philippine Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Ma. Theresa Dizon-De Vega, other officials and OFWs based in Korea.

In his message, he encouraged them to avail of the free 150 TESDA Online Program (TOP) courses that are useful in re-tooling, upskilling and reskilling of OFWs, and provides training and livelihood programs for OFWs and their families.

“Through these programs, we aim to prepare our Filipino workers – wherever they are – to become highly-skilled and globally-competitive, and who can adapt to the ever-changing demand of the industry,” he said.

“Our OFWs are among TESDA’s top clients.  Kasama nyo ang TESDA sa pagpapalalim ng ating kaalaman, sa paghuhubog ng kasanayan, at sa pagpapalago ng inyong kabuhayan.  Kaisa ninyo angTESDA sa inyong mga pangarap sa buhay,” he added.

According to him, TESDA, together with its partner agencies and the private sector, has other programs for OFWs which includes the OFW Reintegration for Skills Employment (RISE).

Bertiz also lauded the PEAK Pinoy Program, or the Promoting Entrepreneurship and Agri-business to OFWs in South Korea, which aims to provide entrepreneurship and agribusiness seminars for Filipinos in Korea.  He likewise expressed his support for this initiative.

“I assure you of our support in all your efforts at improving technical vocational skills, especially for our OFWs and their families,” he said.
