Statement on the passing of former President Fidel V. Ramos

We honor the late President Fidel V. Ramos for his service and dedication to our country and for strengthening its education sector, particularly technical vocational education and training (TVET).

It was during President Ramos' time when TESDA was established.  On August 25, 1994, President Ramos signed Republic Act 7796, also known as the "Technical Education and Skills Development Act of 1994," which merged the National Manpower and Youth Council (NMYC) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Bureau of Technical and Vocational Education (BTVE) of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS), and the Apprenticeship Program of the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) of the DOLE.

The TESDA Law aims to encourage the full participation of and the mobilization of the industry, labor, local government units and technical-vocational institutions in the skills development of the country's human resources.

We are always grateful to the late President Ramos for his initiatives in the TVET sector and we are one with the Filipino nation in remembering his legacy as one of the leaders of this country.
