In response to TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapeña’s urgent call of immediate assistance to typhoon Odette victims, TESDA CARAGA and Region XI will help rehabilitate total and partially-damaged houses to affected families in Dinagat Islands, particularly in Barangay R. Ecleo, Municipality of Cagdianao.
According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office – Dinagat Islands, there are 16,531 houses that were totally damaged and 14,118 that were partially damaged by Odette in the province. On January 5, TESDA Region XI also responded to Secretary Lapeña’s call by sending a 62-member augmentation team to the province and paid a courtesy visit to the Provincial Government of Dinagat Islands led by Cagdianao Mayor Adolfo Longos and Deputy Incident Commander Ma. Jane Mayola, who represented Governor Arlene “Kaka” Bag-ao. Despite the continuous heavy rainfall in the afternoon, the augmentation team was able to assess the extent of damage of each house and was also able to provide roofing for one partially damaged house.
The event also served as a ceremony for TESDA XI Regional Director Lorenzo Macapili to turn over the construction supplies, including food packs to TESDA CARAGA Regional Director Tarhata Mapandi for the Barangay R. Ecleo residents. The residents were also profiled and are about to receive the following training programs:
- Process Food by Salting and Curing
- Solar Installation and Maintenance
- Prepare Hot Meals (leading to Cookery NC II)
- Carpentry
The skills training programs are in compliance with Secretary Lapeña’s directive of providing training cum production to Odette-affected areas as part of TESDAmayan’s initiative to immediately help communities affected by crisis such as natural disasters or any incidents that cause displacement among the residents.
