The town plaza of San Pedro in Laguna turned into a virtual grooming lounge for dads who received free relaxing body care services from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the local government.

“Fathers may claim to be just into the basics, but surely they, too, crave a little luxury now and then.  TESDA gave it to them because we know that our hardworking fathers deserve the best,” Secretary Joel Villanueva, TESDA Director General, said.

About 2,000 fathers, who lined up as early as 8 a.m. on Friday, June 15, were treated to the free services such as haircut, hot oil, foot spa, pedicure and manicure, and reflexology.

The event also turned out to be an occasion to showcase the skills of TESDA Specialistas, certified graduates of the agency in various courses, who personally did the grooming services to the fathers.

The Father’s Day Special Treat: Libreng Serbisyo Handog ng TESDA at LGU was capped by the distribution of tool kits to the TESDA Specialistas who have completed their courses and are now engaged in their own self-employment activities. The new batch of TESDA scholar under its Training for Work Scholarship Program were also present during the event.

“On Father’s Day, we recognize and honor our father, and every father who are critical in the foundation of families.  They are mentors and role models.  They are the men who constantly push us,” Villanueva said.

“Before we get into the formal TVET courses, we should remember too that it is our fathers who taught us the very first skills that we learn from home – from the simple repairs to the more complex tasks later in life.  They are our first tech-voc teachers,” Villanueva added.

Partnering with TESDA in the project were the local government unit of San Pedro, Laguna and training institutes in the town.

Representative Dan Fernandez, Mayor Calixto Cataquiz, Professor Domingo Marmeto of the San Pedro Manpower Development Inc., other TESDA and local government officials joined Villanueva in opening the project.

Fernandez said he hopes TESDA can replicate the project in the other parts of his district in Laguna even after Father’s Day to entice his constituents to take TVET courses.
