In celebration of Indigenous People’s Month, the Provincial Office of TESDA Davao City/Sur conducted various programs for the IP communities in the province for the whole month of October.

Among which is the Upland Rice Farming cum Production Training Program where IPs in Sitio Butay, Barangay Tapak, Paquibato District, have harvested their rice on October 2 that was planted early this year. The training was jointly conducted by TESDA Davao City/Sur and the Regional Training Center - Korea Philippines Vocational Training Center (RTC- KPVTC).  

On the other hand, the IP trainees in Barangay Lorega, Kitaotao, Bukidnon have already raised 332 chickens out of 400 chicks ( 17% mortality rate) on October 1 that were given to them on August 21. The training started on July 1 that was conducted  by TESDA-Wangan National Agricultural School (TESDA-WNAS) together with the regional military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the local detachment of Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit.  The chickens were priced at PHP100  per kilo and the trainees earned a total gross income of PHP32,000 during the whole cycle of poultry raising.

Decommissioned combatants also belonging to an IP community in Davao City have also received scholarships for “Prepare Land for Agricultural Crops Production (Leading to Agricultural Crops Production NC III)” . Pre-orientation on the scholarship was conducted by TESDA-WNAS led by vocational school administrator Engineer Melanie Domingo on October 5 to twenty former rebels. The training is under TESDA’s Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) and will be held for 10 days. 

Tarpaulins with the theme “Year of Filipino Pre-Colonial Ancestors Dayaw 2021” were also posted on the premises of TESDA Davao City/Sur on October 18  in celebration of IP month as well as the annual celebration of the Filipino Pre-Colonial Ancestors.

The National Commission of Indigenous People conducted a Project Completion/ Turnover Ceremony of the “Integrated Ancestral Domain Development Approach to the Culturally Responsive Economic Program” or the IADDA-CREP on October 26 to the indigenous cultural communities of Blaans and the IPs in Barangay Maibo, Magsaysay, Davao del Sur. The project will implement NCIP’s culturally responsive socio-economic development programs to addess not only poverty but also climate change and soil degradation. TESDA will also hold its livelihood programs that will be identified by the community leaders.

These programs are also in accordance with Executive Order 70 or the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict to alleviate poverty as well as end insurgencies in the country.
