Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Secretary and Director General Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong yesterday vowed that the TESDA will sustain its fight against all forms of corruption at the agency, saying this is mandated by no less than President Rodrigo D. Duterte that every government employee must seriously follow.
Speaking before TESDA Central Office employees during the leadership turn-over of the TESDA Association of Concerned Employees (ACE), Sec. Mamondiong reminded every TESDA official and employee that only last year, before the very presence of President Duterte, that TESDA had declared the agency corruption-free.
“It behooves us all in the TESDA to intensify our efforts to sustain our declaration, but my appeal to you is let us help one another,” Mamondiong said in his remarks.
He said any adverse news about TESDA, big or small, affects the whole of TESDA. He said that everyone in TESDA should be familiar with all TESDA programs to be able to answer the public’s questions on what’s ongoing or happening in the agency.
Mamondiong reiterated that while the TESDA has set in place strong and effective anti-graft and corruption measures, such as the national technical audit that led to the closure of 177 technical-vocational institutes (TVIs) last year, close monitoring and supervision of TVIs, and announcing a cash reward of P50,000 for whistleblowers against graft and corruption, he said more needs to be done. He urged the new TESDA ACE officials to join and cooperate with the management in the anti-corruption battle.
“This is why I appeal to all of you for help. Put forth new ideas or measures on how we can fight graft and corruption. I will be happy to hear from you because I know it is from you that the best ideas could sprung. My office has always been open to anyone in TESDA to discuss any matter that impacts on our work as civil servants,” Mamondiong finally said.
