The two-day celebration of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority – National Capital Region (TESDA-NCR) of the National Tech Voc Day kicked off today at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) while the second day of the event will be held at the Atrium Hall in Mandaluyong City on August 26, 2018.
TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” A. Mamondiong said that that the 2-day jobs fair, financial loan assistance and enrollment dubbed “World Café of Opportunities through Jobs Linkages and Networking Services (WCO through JoLiNS) for technical vocational education and training (TVET) graduates/alumni will start from 1-5 p.m. It is one of the strategies of the agency to link the TVET graduates/alumni to employment opportunities both in wage and self-employment.
Mamondiong added that the WCO through JoLiNS is held simultaneously in 17 regions from Aug. 25 – 26 as part of the 24th anniversary celebration of TESDA.
the WCO through JoLiNS, conducted with the support of various stakeholders, is a ‘one-stop-shop’ for TVET graduates/alumni wherein national government agencies, private companies, tech-voc institutions and financing institutions all converge in strategic locations to offer all possible employment, training and financing opportunities and facilitate higher job-skill matching.
On the first day of WCO, 13 national government agencies, 60 employers, 30 technical vocational institutions (TVIs) and more than 1,500 TVET graduates/alumni from the National Capital Region took part. It was attended by government officials from executive and legislative departments, and officials from partner agencies.
The 13 participating government agencies were Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) , Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Trade and Industries (DTI), Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) Office of Cabinet Secretary (OCS), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and Philippine Overseas Employment and Administration (POEA).
TVET graduates/alumni also availed of financial loans and financial assistance to support their plans to come up with a business.
The TVIs welcomed and accepted walk-in enrollees who want to take up skills training programs from more than 200 qualifications of TESDA.
Some 60 employers, through the assistance of PESO in Pasay City, offered job vacancies for TVET graduates/alumni who are looking for jobs. Most of the jobs offered are in the construction and construction-related sectors in support to the Build, Build, Build program of President Duterte.
Of the total numbers of registrants, 200 came from the Camanava area; Manila, 200; MuntiParLasTaPat, 200; Pasay-Makati, 500; PaMaMariSan, 200; and Quezon City, 200.
There was also a Technotainment area for Baristas, Napkin/Towel Folding at Cookery.
The second day of WCO will be held at the Atrium Hall in Mandaluyong City from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. where some 450 TVET graduates/enrollees are expected to participate.
Mamondiong said 30 partner companies/industries with the help of PESO, 30 TVIs and 13 government and financial institutions will be participating in the day 2 of the event.
