A mobile jobs bridging program of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has started its journey around Metro Manila, offering employment opportunities to graduates of technical vocational education graduates.
Dubbed as “Trabaho Para sa TESDA Specialista,” the jobs bridging program will serve as a vehicle to link up many TESDA graduates and other skilled workers with companies in need of applicants who meet their standards and qualified to fill up existing vacancies.
In its first stop in Quezon City, some 110 lucky jobseekers were considered hired on the spot while 830 applicants were asked to report for further interview and written examinations. A total number of 1,933 reportedly enlisted and applied for the available jobs offered.
A total of 46 companies took part in the event that was organized by TESDA in coordination with the Quezon City government and the top online recruitment site JobsDB Philippines.
TESDA Director General Joel J. Villanueva announced that the jobs bridging initiative will be held in different parts of the National Capital Region in the coming months to reach out to TESDA Specialistas, who are looking for jobs.
The TESDA Specialistas are graduates of technical vocational courses and workers who have undergone assessment and were issued National Certificates (NCs) by TESDA.
The National Certificate is a badge which attests that an individual has passed the standards set for workers in a specified occupation making him competent to do the job at the workplace as required by companies .
“Our kick-off event for this year is very timely being a graduation season. Out of school, we want our graduates to be busy and productive. They can come to our jobs bridging venues and discover for themselves how they can make practical use of what they learned in school,” Villanueva said.
According to Villanueva, they will embark on an electronic jobs facilitation to capture all the applicants for continuous job matching.
Companies will be able to spot right away the qualifications they need from among the graduates through an electronic data containing their personal information.
“Jobs bridging will be a venue where the best technical-vocational graduates and the best companies can meet. We have all the brain power and skills, and the most ideal companies to work for coming together in a common hub,” he said.
“When the firms find the perfect worker they need, we can say we are solving one of the country’s most challenging problems, which is unemployment,” Villanueva added.
