Following the success of its nationwide enrollment day and jobs bridging program last February 27-28, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will hold the 2-Day Special National TVET Enrollment Day and Jobs Bridging for Construction and Information Technology–Business Process Management (IT-BPM) on April 5-6.
TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” A. Mamondiong, said that the upcoming special TVET enrollment aims to prepare construction workers who will be needed for the Build, Build, Build projects of President Rodrigo Duterte, as well as to train employees for the IT-BPM sector, an industry that has brought the country worldwide recognition.
Mamondiong said that the event is in response to the increasing number of skilled laborers needed in the fields of construction and IT-BPM, both of which are considered key employment generators (KEGs).
The event is also in line with TESDA's planned “Train to Build Build Build Project” that will further increase the role of technical vocational education and training (TVET) in the fulfilment of the administration’s Build, Build, Build Program.
In June 2017, the Duterte-led NEDA Board Committee on Infrastructure (INFRACOM) and the Investment Coordination Committee (ICC) identified and approved 75 “high-impact infrastructure flagship projects”, 53 of which have a total worth of Php 1,579.18 billion. TESDA expects to provide the necessary training and re-tooling of the workers needed for the 201,600 direct jobs that will be created by the different infrastructure projects.
Records based on the previous national TVET enrollment day showed that only 28,000 had enlisted for various courses in the construction sector such as carpentry, plumbing, masonry, etc.
Mamondiong said that the enrollment number for the construction courses is still very low, as some 100,000 construction workers will be needed by the Build, Build, Build projects.
The TESDA chief invited indigenous peoples (IPs), rebel returnees, and the poor to avail of the free courses being offered by the agency.
Also invited are unemployed former overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), especially those who have returned from Kuwait, to apply for positions that will be offered by TESDA’s industry partners during the jobs bridging event.
The OFWs may also enroll in the tech-voc courses to earn more qualifications or learn additional skills and increase their chances of finding profitable employment.
Government agencies expected to take part in the jobs bridging/fair to help the TVET graduates include the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Philippine Constructors Association (PCA), and IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IT-BPAP).
The 2-Day Special National TVET Enrollment and Jobs Bridging will be conducted at the more than 220 TESDA Technology Institutions (TTIs) and TESDA offices nationwide.
Interested applicants aged 15 and above are requested to bring 2 pieces of colored 1x1 pictures with white background, ball pen, valid ID and birth certificate.
For TVET graduates in search of jobs, they are required to bring their bio data/resume and TVET certificate.
