Some 1,084 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Marawi City have received skills training from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong said that the skills training will give a new lease on life among IDPs who were affected by the war in Marawi City which was finally liberated from terrorists.

The skills training is expected to open new opportunities to them when they find jobs here and abroad, he said.

Mamondiong said that he expects an increase in the number of students who wanted to enrol under the scholarship program of TESDA following the Marawi siege.

The TESDA chief encouraged the people of Marawi City who wanted to avail of the scholarship program to visit the nearest TESDA agency or check the official website www.tesda.gov.ph for information.

Of 1,084 IDPs, 1,002 finished courses such as Cake Making (Leading to Bread and Pastry Production); Dressmaking; Massage Therapy; Carpenty; Prepare and Cook Hot Meals (Leading to Cookery NC II); Pastry Making (Leading to Bread and Pastry Production); Silk Screen Printing of T-Shirt; Prepare Poultry and Vegetable Dishes (Leading to Cookery NC II) and Agri-Crops Production NC II.

Records also showed that 291 students were men while 793 others were women. At least 261 men have completed their chosen course while 741 women have finished their selected course.

Aside from this, up to 2,500 affected families were given relief goods from TESDA such as rice, canned goods, water, assorted hygiene materials, noodles, food packs, slippers, towels and other necessities.

The Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte-National Executive Coordination Committee (MRRD-NECC), in tandem with TESDA, assisted some 4,000 people affected by the Marawi crisis.
