50% OF TRAINING INSTITUTIONS PASS TESDA AUDIT

Up to 50 percent of the training institutions of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) passed the nationwide technical audit which aims to improve the agency's skills training program.

TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong said that the technical audit would ensure trainees that they would be given proper guidance when they seek employment after they have completed their skills training.

Among those that underwent nationwide technical audit were the facilities, equipment and the faculty of all TESDA Training Institutions (TTIs) and Technical Vocational Institutions (TVIs) nationwide.

“Of these training centers, 50 percent were found to be capable and compliant with our training regulations, 29 percent are non-compliant and 21 percent closed their programs, rendering the reduction of our registered programs to 14,347 from 18,288,” said Mamondiong.

Mamondiong said that he is hopeful that before the term of President Rodrigo Duterte ends in 2022, the number of TESDA's registered programs will increase.

“We are targeting to register in cooperation with the industry 50,000 programs before the end of the term of the President, which is a must, because for every program or qualification we developed, we are creating jobs and means of livelihood for our people as a natural consequence,"the TESDA chief said.

Also, TESDA has conducted the tendering system in the distribution of scholarships to the TVIs to ensure that the training centers have the capacity to give skills training side from the National Inspectorate Group.

“We have created NIG to see to it that our training regulations are religiously observed by the training centers, that our training exist physically, and that our trainees/scholars are real, not ghosts," Mamondiong added.
