Up to 76 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were given on-site competency assessment by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in the Middle East.

At least 70 OFWs have already received a certificate after they completed the assessment in Riyadh and Al Khobar in the Middle East which earned a certificate rate of 92.11 percent.

Included in the qualifications were Computer Systems Servicing NC II with 100 percent certification rate; Technical Drafting NC II, 88.89 percent and Visual Graphic Design NC III, 80.00 percent.

TESDA launched the Onsite Assessment Program (OAP) in Riyadh and Al Khobar on April 28-30. Later, the same program will commence in other parts of the Middle East and other countries.

OAP aims to find out if a Filipino skilled worker abroad possesses the competencies required in a preferred work.

Also, representatives from TESDA will soon visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to inspect and meet those who wanted to put up program registration and accreditation under the TESDA Assessment Centers.

TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong said that the OAP seeks to uplift OFWs through better and high-paying jobs.

“The program seeks to support the goal of bringing the Filipino overseas workers out of low skilled, low paying and oppressive service work, and assist them to land in higher skilled, better paying and decent work” said Mamondiong.

The TESDA chief also encouraged OFWs interested in on-site assessment to inquire about the program at the Philippine Overseas Labor Offices (POLO) in their respective countries.
