The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) gave skills training to family members of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel who were killed in the line of duty.

TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong said that the skills training is part of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed among government agencies under the Comprehensive Social Benefits Program (CSBP) for police and military personnel.

Aside from the beneficiaries of those AFP and PNP personnel who were killed-in-Action/Killed-in- Police-Operation (KIA/KIPO), police and military men who were Wounded-in-Action/Wounded-in- Police Operation (WIA-WIPO) were also given skills training by TESDA.

It would be recalled that the CSBP started in February 16 kicked off in Koronadal, South Cotabato (Mindanao area), February 24 in Iloilo City (Visayas area) and March 24 in Atrium Hotel in Pasay City (Luzon area).

It was attended by regional/provincial directors from various government agencies such as TESDA, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Trade and Industry, and others.

Last February 28, the DILG recommended to TESDA to give skills training to family members of 88 soldiers and policemen who were KIA/KIPO in far-flung places of various regions.

Based on CSBP guidelines, one of the benefits that will be provided is the Special Financial Assistance (SFA) which will be given in two tranches.  The first tranche of the SFA shall immediately be given to legitimate KIA/KIPO and WIA/WIPO beneficiaries amounting to P250,000 and P100,000 respectively.

The second SFA tranche, amounting to P250,000 for KIA/KIPO and P150,000 for WIA/WIPO, will be released to beneficiaries upon their completion of the financial literacy training by the BSP, entrepreneurship training from the DTI, and skills training at TESDA.

The government also conducted the Special Skills Training for AFP and PNP Battle Casualties and Dependents at the 1st Division (Tabak) Headquarters, Upper Pulacan, Zamboanga del Sur last March 27-29 for the immediate release of financial assistance.
