TESDA TO HELP VICTIMS OF TYPHOON NINA

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has said that it will provide scholarships to victims of typhoon Nina that slammed Southern Tagalog last month.

TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong has said the government agency is now assessing the areas devastated by the typhoon which include Mindoro, Marinduque, Batangas, Catanduanes, Legaspi, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur and other parts of Southern Tagalog.

Aside from the scholarships, TESDA said that it would provide community-based training to affected residents by teaching them whatever their area could offer while the training con production project would increase their skills.

“Inaasahan natin na sa pamamagitan ng inisyatibo nating ito ay matulungan natin ang ating mga kababayan sa mga naturang lugar na makalimutan ang kanilang masamang karanasan at mas magiging madali din para sa kanila ang pagbangon," added Mamondiong.

Mamondiong said that he would personally visit some of the affected provinces to assess what other assistance TESDA could give aside from the scholarships and skills training.

TESDA has also coordinated with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to facilitate the official list of victims affected by typhoon Nina.

It would be recalled that "Nina" battered parts of Southern Tagalog on Christmas Day and affected 116,154 people in 395 barangays.

Just recently, Mamondiong allotted more than 100,000 scholarships in the Visayas and Bicol Region.

Mamondiong has called on those affected by typhoon "Nina" to go to the nearest district or provincial office of TESDa and enlist for the scholarship program. Typhoon victims may also drop by the TESDA website www.tesda.gov.ph for more details.
