Technical Education and Skills Training Authority (TESDA) Director General Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong has called for the renovation and upgrading of more than 100 training centers nationwide as he lamented the sad state of the agency's training centers.
During the National Directorate Conference (NDC) held at the TESDA Women's Center in Taguig City last November 7 and 8, Mamondiong instructed all TESDA regional directors to submit for consideration their respective requirements for the renovation and upgrading of the more than 100 training centers under their jurisdiction, promising sufficient financial assistance for the improvements.
Mamondiong also cited the need for regular dialogues with stakeholders to encourage collaborative decision-making.
The two-day event gathered TESDA's top officials to discuss current issues and concerns of the country’s technical vocational education and training (TVET) system needing immediate attention.
Deputy Director General for Policies and Planning Rosanna Urdaneta highlighted major imperatives such as the crafting of the National Technical Education and Skills Development Plan and the need for partnerships with institutions to establish pathways and equivalencies within Philippine Qualifications Framework.
Deputy Director General Rebecca Calzado emphasized the strengthening linkages with stakeholders and industry, and underscored the revitalization of the implementation of industry-based training such as the Dual Training System and Apprenticeship Program.
Also discussed and presented were the new Tendering System for Scholarship Grants for the Training for Work Scholarship Program, results of the Skills Mapping Survey, updates on the ongoing technical audit, and a possible program for overseas Filipino workers.
