Some 300 out of school and unemployed youths stand to benefit from a training partnership among the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Skyway (O&M) Corporation (SOMCO), and IETI College-Alabang.

With the completion of the Integrated Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the Skyway System expected in a month’s time, SOMCO has sought the assistance of TESDA in the training needs of its toll-teller applicants, specifically on Book Keeping National Certificate III, including on-the-job training program.

The training is open to residents of Taguig, Paranaque, Muntinlupa, Pasay and Makati City, who are at least 18 years old and above, and who have undergone at least 53 units of post-secondary education.

TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva said this initiative “proves that public-private partnerships for technical education can contribute to TESDA’s mandate to provide high quality technical education and skills training to support the development of the Filipino workforce.”

“There are hundreds of youths searching for gainful employment but are unable to do so for lack of skills, and SOMCO’s request for assistance helps TESDA taking off at least 300 young people out of the unemployed list,” Villanueva said.

“SOMCO constantly needs new personnel with required competencies that could be acquired through appropriate technical education and on-the-job training,” Villanueva said.

“We are here to provide not just technical assistance, but also to administer competency assessment to the graduates of the program,” Villanueva continued.

“Applicants who pass the competency assessment will be issued a Bookkeeping National Certificate III,” Villanueva added.

The training will be conducted by IETI College-Alabang, which has TESDA registered Bookkeeping NC III program.

The first batch of 300 Toll Teller Applicants will undergo said training scholarship grants under the Training for Work Scholarship Program.
