The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has approved a new training regulation seen to boost workers' skills in the transport and logistics industry.
TESDA Director General Irene Isaac announced that interested trainees may soon enroll in Warehousing Services NC II to be certified graduates and increase their qualification for employment.
The training deals on warehouse operation for warehouse checker, warehouse picker, dispatcher, warehouse packer, materials handler and warehouse person.
“Concerns relating to transport and logistics have prompted the demand for competency-based education to ensure that people who get into the industry have the right skills,” Isaac said.
In addition, the TESDA chief said that the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) transport and logistics benchmarking project calls for, among others, skills development in the following areas: warehouse operator, logistics administrative officer, warehouse supervisor, freight forwarder and supply chain manager.
This is also aimed at improving linkages between industry and vocational education and training programs and improving recognition arrangements across economies, Isaac added.
“The logistics community continues to make progress in the country, which means that it would be among the job generators,” she said.
“Training our youth will ensure a steady supply of workers in companies engaged in the business,” she added.
The training regulation was developed in consultation with the Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines and other organizations involved in transport and logistics.
Graduates are required to undergo the mandatory assessment under the national assessment and certification program.
