Skilled trainees from MuntiParLasTaPat topped the recently-concluded regional skills competition of the National Capital Region (NCR) with six gold medals.
Composed of Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Taguig, Pateros, the district area of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) also got three silver and one bronze for a total of 10 medals.
PaMaMariSan (Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina, San Juan) came in second with five gold, five silver and two bronze medals for a total of 12.
This was followed by CaMaNaVa (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela) with four medals (one gold, two silver, one bronze); Quezon City with three medals (one gold, two silver); Pasay-Makati with two medals (one gold, one silver); and Manila with two medals (one silver, one bronze).
TESDA has been holding the skills competition at the provincial and the regional levels. The winners at the regional level will compete at the national level for a chance to represent the Philippines at the next ASEAN Skills Competition.
"The trainees who took part in the skills competition represent an important component in the future of our workforce and the nation's economic prosperity," TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva.
"Through competitions as this, we are able to put the spotlight on them and celebrate the full spectrum of their achievements," he added.
Prospects are looking bright for the Philippines as it prepares to participate anew in the ASEAN Skills Competition, which Villanueva said, showcases the economic value of technical vocational skills and boosts recognition for the skilled trades worldwide.
The NCR regional skills competition had a total of 62 competitors from various endorsing technical vocational schools. During the competition, the competitors were assisted by experts, TESDA-appointed jury president and judges.
The competitors battled it out in the following trade areas: Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Graphic Design, Industrial Automation, Industrial Electronics, Information network Cabling, IT Network System Administration, IT Software Solution, Mechanical Engineering Design-CAD, Mechatronics, Web Design, Automobile Technology, Fashion Technology, Restaurant Services, Cooking, Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, Refrigeration and Air - conditioning, and Plumbing.
From among the 19 participating technical vocational institutions, the Meralco Foundation Inc. garnered the most number of medals that include 7 gold. The other participating tech-voc schools were the Asian College of Science and Technology; Caloocan City Manpower Training Center; Escuella Taller de Filipinas Foundation, Inc.; Gateways Institute of Science and Technology; Honorio MC Lopez Technical Institute, Inc.; IETI College of Science and Technology (Marikina); Informatics College-Northgate, Inc.; Interface Computer College-Caloocan; Interface Computer College-Manila; Lakewood School of Alabang; Lyceum of Alabang; Mandaluyong Manpower Technical and Vocational Training Center; Marikina Polytechnic College; Samson College of Science and Technology; Slim's Fashion and Arts School; St. Joseph Technical Skills Institute, Inc.; Sta. Cecilia College; and, TESDA Women's Center.
