It will be a week of fun, service and recognition as the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) celebrates its 21st Anniversary from August 24 to 28.
As the government agency tasked to manage and supervise technical vocational education and training in the country, TESDA, for the last 21 years, has been at the forefront of the development of the Filipino workforce with world-class competence and positive work values, Secretary Joel Villanueva, the agency's Director General, said.
"Relevant and quality training has sparked a wave of entrepreneurial activity in the country and higher employment rate for tech-voc graduates, translating to improved lives of Filipino families," Villanueva, who was appointed in the agency in July 2010, said.
"We will help more Filipino youth train and connect to jobs, so that by the end of our term, we can look everyone straight in the eye and declare job done," Villanueva said.
Opening the event on Monday, August 24, are a host of activities such as a mass, dance contest and a motorcade that will depict TESDA's accomplishments from 2010 up to the present.
Highlighting the day will be TESDA's "Libreng Serbisyo sa Barangay Program” in Western Bicutan, Taguig where TESDA will provide free health and wellness services and skills demonstrations featuring its TESDA Specialistas.
On Tuesday, August 25, the guests will be treated to a showcase of TESDA partnerships, techno demo of dairy products and the skills competition among employees of the agency. In the afternoon, TESDA will recognize outstanding graduates and partners from institutions, the private sector and local government units with the annual Kabalikat and Idol ng TESDA Awards.
The “Kabalikat Award” gives due recognition to the agency's outstanding partners in the promotion and enhancement of TVET. It is conferred to outstanding institutions, private firms and companies, local government units and legislative partners because of their good practices and contribution in the promotion and development of Filipino skilled workers.
The “Idols ng TESDA” will be conferred to graduates of various TVET courses, who are gainfully employed either as wage workers or are managing their own businesses and have contributed to the socio-economic improvements in their respective communities.
August 26 will be devoted to health and wellness with free medical examination and services such as haircut, massage and foot and hand spa. TESDA directors and staff will also join a badminton exhibition in the afternoon.
On August 27, employees will have a fun run and a sports fest featuring games such as volleyball, basketball and badminton.
On the last day on August 28, the agency will award employees who have excelled in service and retirees. The winners in the various contests and sports competition during the week will also be feted.
