Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Director General Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong met with various stakeholders in the Bicol Region during a consultation and dialogue held at the La Piazza Hotel in Legazpi City last November 14.
During the event, the TESDA Chief announced that 30,000 scholarship slots were being allotted for the Bicol Region starting November 2016 until April 2017 with a corresponding budget of Php 150M, the biggest amount allocated for the region to date.
Sec. Mamondiong also mentioned that TESDA is seriously looking into the concerns of public and private technical vocational institutions about lowering the cost of assessment and training, as well as the observed lack of equipment in some TESDA training centers.
He further assured the representatives of the technical vocational institutions of the Agency’s support.
“Kung wala ang mga tech-voc institutions, wala rin ang TESDA. Palaging aalalay sa inyo ang TESDA. We need each other,” said Mamondiong.
The Secretary was accompanied by TESDA Deputy Director General for TESD Operations Alvin S. Feliciano, and Deputy Director General for Communities and LGUs Atty. Diosdado O. Padilla.
Among the more than 270 participants were representatives from local government units, the heads of the Liga ng mga Barangay, public and private technical vocational institutions, state universities and colleges, and other officials from various national government agencies.
