BUTUAN CITY – Sec. Guiling A. Mamondiong, Director-General of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) on Tuesday said that the agency is willing to provide skills training to drug surrenderees.
Speaking before the local tri-media during the press conference held in one of the local convention centers here, Sec. Mamondiong said this is one of the priority programs of the agency in support to the program of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
The official explained that with the increasing number of drug surrenderees, the Duterte administration is keen on empowering them by providing skills training that will change their lifestyle. “The skills trainings that they will obtain will allow them to change their lives for the better,” the official said in Tagalog language.
When asked how this process will be undertaken, the official said those surrenderees who needs to be rehabilitated must undertake the rehabilitation first. “After the period of rehabilitation and found out that they are already okay, then that’s the time that TESDA will come in and provide them the skills training according to their choice”, Sec. Mamondiong said.
According to CNN Philippines, more than 700,000 drug dependents surrendered to authorities in the first 100 days of President Duterte and now, the government intends to rehabilitate those who already came forward.
CNN Philippines also reported that Duterte received an "excellent" net satisfaction rating in a recent Social Weather Stations survey, with 84 percent of respondents saying they are satisfied with the drug crackdown. (RER/TESDA-Caraga)
