Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong announced that TESDA Region 8 will allocate 10,000 TESDA scholarship slots, during his visit to Tacloban City last October 4.

Of the 10,000 TESDA scholarship slots, 5,000 of which will be implemented this year and the other 5,000 in 2017, Mamondiong said.
 
Mamondiong was in Tacloban to attend the Regional Stakeholder’s Consultation conducted by TESDA Region 8 at the Ritz Tower de Leyte.

In his message, the TESDA Director General expressed his appreciation of the huge turnout of participants for the Consultation as well as the Agency’s desire for all Philippine barangays to have easier access to TESDA’s programs and services.
 
Some 150 participants from industry, sectoral groups, local government units, academe, tech-voc institutions, non-government organizations, national government agencies and other Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) partners attended the event.

The consultation gathered the different TVET stakeholders to identify TVET issues and challenges in the region, the priority skills are needed by industries and communities, and what interventions can be recommended to address these.
 
Present during the event was TESDA Deputy Director General for Policies and Planning Rosanna A. Urdaneta who discussed the Agency’s Two-pronged Strategy for Poverty Reduction and its Reform and Development Agenda.

Also in attendance were several officials of TESDA Region 8, Department of Tourism, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Labor and Employment, and National Economic and Development Authority as well as members of the local media.
