TESDA Director General, Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong, along with the Philippine Delegation to the 11th ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC), paid a courtesy visit to the Philippine Embassy in Malaysia on September 29, 2016. The Secretary dropped by the Migrant Workers and other Overseas Filipinos Resource Center (MWOFRC) where he committed TESDA’s support in upgrading the center’s equipment and training programs offered, thus improving the center’s ability to provide the best possible opportunities to distressed Filipino migrants in Malaysia.
Sec. Gene, who was in Kuala Lumpur to encourage the country’s bets to the ASEAN Skills Competition, also announced much to the surprise and delight of the Team, TESDA’s incentives for them: Php 100K for the gold medalist, Php 50K for the silver, and Php 25K for each of the five bronze medalists. Likewise, each competitor is to receive Php 10k, while each coach, Php 5k.
The 2016 Philippine Team that contended in 12 competition areas during the ASC was composed of 24 competitors and their experts (coaches). It was formed through a stringent selection process which included the Philippine National Skills Competition (PNSC), and a series of “Gold Camps” where the successful PNSC winners and their respective experts underwent skills enhancement exercises and psychological, physical and emotional conditioning.
