Secretary Joel Villanueva accompanied His Excellency President Benigno S. Aquino III during the inauguration of Negros First Rice Processing Center in Bago City and the Negros First Cyber Center, a facility owned and managed by the Negros Occidental province. The cyber center is an IT-BPO Hub that offers up to 22,000 square meters of mixed IT-BPO and commercial spaces. The facility aims to employ 6,000 direct BPO jobs and 20,000 indirect jobs for Negrenses in the next two years.
In his speech, President Aquino highlighted TESDA’s role in the growing Information Technology - Business Processing Management (IT-BPM) sector in the province and even kidded Sec Joel of continued support to both Occidental and Oriental Negros.
"Babalikan ko lang ho ‘yung utang ni Joel Villanueva. Paano ‘yung Negros Oriental, Joel, dala mo rin ba? Alam na ng Negros Oriental ‘yung sa kanila dahil galing na si Joel doon. Dito na tayo sa Negros Occidental. This year po, may P70 million na scholarship vouchers just for the IT-BPM sector. [Palakpakan] We expect at least 85 percent of the 7200 beneficiaries to find a job. And last month, ‘yung animation and health info office got P65 million also for scholarships. [Palakpakan] Joel, heto P135 million yata eh. ‘Yung Tarlac ba, nagkaroon ng 1.35 man lang. Baka hindi na ako makauwi sa amin. [Tawanan]”
