The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority - Wangan National Agricultural School (TESDA-WNAS) heightens preparations for online classes as Davao City eases into Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).

Vocational School Administrator Felipe Hiquial Jr. assures students that the institution is ready to accommodate their e-learning needs as TESDA-WNAS instructors have developed additional e-learning materials.

Currently, trainee enrollment is available online through a registration form advertised in the TESDA WNAS Facebook page.
“We already informed our trainees [online] that we are still doing some adjustments and waiting for the directives coming from the [TESDA] Central Office and local government when to resume classes, or face-to-face [sessions]. But we are ready for them and when our e-learning materials developed by our instructors are approved by the CO and Regional Office, we can implement them immediately this July to September.” Hiquial said.

“We also have a September to December plan - a continuity plan for the implementation of our programs in the new normal and through e-learning.” He added.

Meanwhile, TESDA WNAS also continues to provide services to policemen, soldiers, barangay health workers (BHW), and barangay tanods through the production of breads, pastries, food packs, drinks, face masks, face shields, and vegetables, among others.

To date, the school has produced 485 cloth face masks and 344 face shields for Davao City’s frontliners. Over 1,700 food items including assorted vegetables were also provided to frontliners and communities.

The resources used for the making and delivery of the said products are from the institution’s Agricultural Crops Production NC II, Bread and Pastry Production NC II, Food and Beverage Services NC II, Food Processing NC II, and Animal Production NC II programs.

In addition, the school gave two (2) boxes of surgical masks to WNAS employees - each box containing 50 pieces of masks, on June 16. 40 pcs. were also  given to PRLEC trainees in Sitio Taloytoy, Brgy. Malabog, Paquibato District, Davao City on July 1. On July 9, 50 pcs. of surgical masks were provided for the PRLEC trainees in Sitio Luyan, Brgy. Tambobong, Baguio District, Davao City.

Also part of the vocational school’s shift to the new normal is ensuring food security through “Foodscaping,” or edible landscaping and maintaining its mini organic farm.

Food security and production are also embedded in the programs being launched by WNAS under the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) in Tambobong, Tawan-Tawan, Tabak and Paquibato district in cooperation with the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

VSA Hiquial also emphasized the institution’s preparation of programs for farmers while awaiting guidelines from the local government, as they are vital in ensuring continuous service for Davao City. ###
