Around 8,000 individuals led by Secretary Joel Villanueva participated in last Sunday’s (August 17) Run for ASEAN Gold in Luneta Park to promote tech-voc education and to raise funds for the Philippine delegates to the 10th ASEAN Skills Competition in Vietnam this October. The delegation will be composed of 18 competitors and 16 coaches, who will take part in various competition areas during the skills event.

Sec Joel led the three-kilometer run with guests that included Manila Vice-Mayor Isko Moreno, Congw. Bernadette Hernandez and Col. Alejandro Escaño, President of TEVSAPHIL. The fun run was organized by TESDA National Capital Region (NCR) headed by RD Mitzi Tangonan and the NCR Alliance of TVET Schools Association (NCR ATSA) led by Chef Gabby Prats. Mr. Ram Lacson won the men’s category and Ms. Salome Bien in the women’s category clocking 12 minutes and 31 seconds and 19 minutes and 26 seconds respectively.

"We want to tap into the Filipinos' love for running and turn it into an activity that will help further the cause of technical vocational education and training. Specifically, we are doing this to help raise funds for our delegates to the ASEAN Skills Competition, who will be doing the country proud as they showcase their skills and try to win the gold."
